USE SPORTS CAPS WITH or WITHOUT THE INTERNAL STRAW – Here’s how
Sports cap use
You can use your onegreenbottle sports caps with or without their internal silicone straw. To use with the internal straw; drink from the bottle in the upright position – don’t tip it. If you use without the internal straw you need to tip to sip. If you choose not to use the straw internally, keep it handy to put in cocktails and smoothies instead! If you do use with the internal straw make sure you clean it regularly with a tiny brush or pipecleaner.
If you are having problems with not getting enough water through your sports cap please try the following things:
- If the internal straw is attached make sure you are not tipping the bottle
- If the internal straw is attached make sure it isn’t too long – trim to an angle so it doesn’t touch the base of the bottle
- Try using without the internal straw – make sure you tip to sip
- Still having issues – email us or give us a call we are always happy to help

We like to keep things tight here at OGB, so your bottle shouldn’t leak. If you’re having issues, make sure your valve is intact (you can find it under the folded down spout). If you need a new one we sell replacements, check them out below. And finally, make sure you screw your cap on properly *eye roll*.
Don’t be afraid to get your hands dirty! Our painted bottles could lose their good looks if they get put in the dishwasher. Oh, and make sure you drain your bottle upside down otherwise you could be smelling pretty pond-y when you open your bottle at work the next day…and no one wants to be THAT guy.
PLEASE FOLLOW THE FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS TO LOOK AFTER YOUR BOTTLE AND PROLONG IT’S LIFE.
Caring for Your Bottle
To ensure your bottle lasts a lifetime, we recommend regular cleaning and proper care. Avoid harsh impacts, and wash your bottle with warm soapy water or a bottle brush to keep it in tip-top condition. If you have any questions about maintenance, our team is here to help.
A Deep clean
Our stainless steel is the highest grade 304 or 18/8. It does not take on or impart odours or taste. Stainless steel is naturally resistant to bacterial growth but If your bottle does develop a nasty niff it can easily be remedied
If your stainless steel water bottle develops an unpleasant smell, here’s how to clean it effectively:
Materials Needed:
- Warm water
- Dish soap
- Baking soda
- White vinegar
- Bottle brush or a soft sponge
- Optional: Lemon juice or hydrogen peroxide
Step-by-Step Cleaning:
- Routine Wash:
- Rinse the bottle thoroughly with warm water to remove any residue.
- Add a few drops of dish soap and fill the bottle halfway with warm water.
- Use a bottle brush or soft sponge to scrub the interior. Don’t forget to clean the cap and threads.
- Deep Cleaning with Baking Soda and Vinegar:
- Sprinkle 1-2 teaspoons of baking soda into the bottle.
- Add a splash of white vinegar (be cautious, as it will fizz).
- Once the fizzing subsides, fill the bottle with warm water and let it sit for 15-30 minutes.
- Scrub thoroughly with a brush and rinse well.
- Neutralize Odors:
- If odours persist, fill the bottle with warm water and add a few tablespoons of lemon juice or hydrogen peroxide.
- Let it sit for a few hours or overnight for best results.
- Rinse thoroughly.
- Dry Completely:
- After rinsing, dry the bottle upside down on a rack with the cap removed. This prevents moisture buildup, which can cause odours.
- Regular Maintenance:
- Clean your bottle daily if used frequently, and deep clean it weekly or as needed.
- Avoid leaving liquids in the bottle for extended periods, especially beverages like milk or juice.
Extra Tips:
- Avoid abrasive scrubbers, as they may scratch the stainless steel.
- If the cap has seals or rubber components, check for hidden mold and clean with soapy water or a vinegar solution.
This method ensures your bottle stays clean, odour-free, and safe for use!
What to Do If Rust Appears
- Clean the Affected Area: Use a paste of baking soda and water or a stainless steel cleaner with a soft cloth to gently scrub the rust. Rinse thoroughly and dry.
- Check the Source: Ensure the discoloration isn’t caused by external contaminants, such as mineral deposits from water or residue from a drying rack.
- Prevent Future Rust: Avoid leaving the bottle in damp conditions for extended periods, and clean it regularly, especially after exposure to saltwater or acidic drinks.
MATERIALS
Our bottles are made from 304 grade stainless steel which is the safest material around for drinks containers. Non-rusting, non leaching and toxin free, it ticks all the boxes and it won’t let you down. Its the Leo DiCaprio of metals.
Our caps are BPA/BPS free, which makes them better for you but a little bit more fragile. Treat me with the TLC I deserve (and supervise children who might be tempted to give my cap a chew!)
BOTTLE HACKS
If you have an insulated bottle, putting it in the fridge won’t make any difference to the temperature of the contents, instead put a jug of water in the fridge before you use it to fill me up. If you have a single wall bottle (Tough or Curvy Canteen) then you can put it straight in the fridge.
The necks of most of our bottles are wide enough to fit ice cubes!
The lid of our sports cap might leak if it gets thrown in the bottom of a sports bag – try and position it upright or invest in a steel cap for these occasions!
